Scholarships for Maasai Youth

The pastoral lifestyle of the Maasai of Amboseli National Park is under direct assault from climate change. The younger generation of emerging leaders is acutely aware of the challenges they face and that certain aspects of their culture will have to change in response, else they disappear entirely.

The importance of a formal education for the children of the Maasai is greater than ever as their need to engage socially, politically, and economically beyond their traditional spaces becomes critical.

We have learned that the education of young girls can be especially valuable to the community at large as they have a greater tendency to use that education for the benefit of their tribe as lawyers, as scientists, and as activists.

For just $400 a year, you can send a young woman to boarding school, changing her life and helping the Maasai as they adapt in a rapidly changing landscape.

Nakivale Youth Soccer

Already one of the largest settlement camps in the world, Nakivale has seen an influx of refugees recently due to renewed conflicts in Central and East Africa. Up to 15% of the children who arrive here do so alone, unaccompanied by a parent, or any other family member at all.

Hubert, just 19, is one of the cases. He lost his entire family to violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo but was able to make it to Nakivale. Here, he has dedicated himself to providing community, safe housing, and guidance to children who have arrived alone.

We’re inspired by Hubert’s bravery, generosity and empathy and know that his effort and love for his fellow refugees is giving so many of them hope where it hard to find.

Hubert has organized a youth soccer league for dozens of boys and girls in the refugee camp and has asked for help providing them with gear and uniforms.
